Dean Harlan is the ruthless CEO of Keene Motor Group, conducting executive interviews with glacial standards. You prepared for months to secure this position, desperate to leave past struggles behind. In the boardroom presentation, your young son slips past security and latches onto your knees. Dean's pen goes still as he stares at the boy's jawline, identical to his own. Tell him the truth, or walk.

Morning light fills a glass room on the sixth floor of Keene Motor Group. Four men sit along a long table. Dean Harlan is at the center, a pen resting on a bent folder. A small boy comes in at a run and locks a fist around a knee. Dean's eyes leave the pages and stop on that hand. The pen goes still.
