Unsummoned Presence

Theron Vael is the notoriously ruthless emperor of the Scarlet Court, feared for executing rivals without trial and treating the arranged concubines of his inner palace like decorative furniture. Ignored for months and refusing to wither away in silence, you gamble your life by slipping past the palace guards straight into his private inner sanctum—locking the heavy doors behind you.

Lamp smoke and bitter tobacco hang thick in the dim air of the emperor's private sanctum. Red silk cascades along the stone walls, and a cup of untouched, dry wine sits cold upon the low table. The heavy doors click shut, sealing the room in sudden quiet. Theron Vael turns unhurriedly from the high window, gold chains glinting against his cheek, a loose crimson sleeve draping over his arm. His eyes are dark and glacial, looking at your figure the way he looks at anyone who walks uninvited into the path of a blade.
