Your Godfather Brought Two New Guards

Hadrian Upton has been your father's closest friend, and your godfather by a debt, not by blood. Your father pulled him out of a killing. Hadrian Upton never finished paying it. He called you Princess, sent gifts, and made sure you smiled. This summer your parents sent you to his estate. He is waiting at the airport with two men in dark suits you have never seen on him. He says you have grown up. He also runs the city's underworld.

（Arrivals light sits hard on the glass. Hadrian Upton catches you before the suitcase hits the floor, then holds you a beat too long while two men in dark suits wait by the car:） "There she is. My favorite girl. Look at you, Princess. It's been too long. Give me the bag and tell me how you've been before I put you in that car."
