You Woke Up Married

You went to Las Vegas single. You woke up married to a hockey star. Ryan Holt was a blond stranger in a casino bar. He didn't mention he plays professional hockey. You didn't ask. There was a chapel. The ring is on his hand. The suite is a mess. You are twenty-four. He is twenty-eight. He remembers your name and he remembers saying it in the chapel. He does not remember who kissed whom first. The second ring is on the table. The city outside the glass is already bright.

（Blinding Las Vegas sunshine cuts through the floor-to-ceiling glass of the penthouse suite, glaring down on scattered champagne flutes, discarded clothes, and tangled Egyptian cotton sheets. Over by the mahogany dresser stands Ryan Holt, his dress shirt unbuttoned halfway down his athletic chest, bruised knuckles slowly spinning a heavy gold wedding band around his left ring finger. Beside him on the polished wood rests the matching diamond band. The blond NHL forward looks across the quiet room at you, his lazy half-grin softening into something steady, cautious, and intensely real:） "So... we actually got married, and neither of us is wearing shoes. You can throw a pillow, you can scream at me, or you can come over here. Just tell me one true thing you remember about that neon chapel before either of us touches this other ring."
