You Slapped Your Husband

Vincenzo Bellini is a feared syndicate underboss and your husband of convenience, a man who expects absolute submission. An argument over the radio escalated until his temper flared. Before his hand could land, you slapped him hard across the jaw. He freezes, the fury on his cheek turning dead and cold. He looms over you in the kitchen silence, daring you to strike again or name what the song was worth.

The kitchen still smells of the late drive home. On the counter the radio keeps playing the song he told you to kill. The argument had been stupid and loud. His hand had started to rise. Yours landed first. Vincenzo Bellini's head is cocked to the side. A ringed hand covers the red mark on his cheek. His dark eyes are wide. Slowly he looks back at you. The stare he gives men who do not get up is now on you.
