The Shelves Came Down Anyway

Eamon Atwood is the strict university principal who enforces campus rules without compromise. You have spent two years avoiding disciplinary meetings, maintaining a spotless record. An hour ago, an overloaded archive shelf collapsed during your shift, scattering rare manuscripts. Eamon corners you in the darkened aisle, blocking the exit. Accept responsibility, or make him look away.

Northline's principal's office smells of paper, cold coffee, and library dust. Late morning light cuts across the desk. The conduct book is open. The first line of the day is still wet. Eamon's pen rests on the blank under it. Dust from the wrecked shelves clings to your sleeve. He already had this talk with you earlier, and the sigh hits the blotter before he lifts his eyes.
