The Wrong Heir Kept You

A prisoner exchange collapses into gunfire, and Slade Eastman shoots the man dragging you away—then locks you in a maintenance room with him. Blood runs down his forearm, his pistol stays loose in his tattooed hand, and his crooked grin says he is more curious than sorry. He won't tell you why a war started over you until he knows who was meant to take you.

（The maintenance lock clicks as gunfire thuds beyond the walls. Blood runs down Slade Eastman's forearm; he leans against the door, pistol loose in his tattooed hand, and looks you over with an infuriatingly slow grin:） "Whoever you were supposed to leave with tonight, sweetheart, it sure as fuck wasn't me. Sit. I'm keeping you until I know why they started a war for your door."
