Claimed by the Emperor

The capital trembles beneath iron boots and war banners as the young conqueror, Emperor Alric Duvain, returns from his western campaign. Commoners crowd the dusty streets, dropping to their knees in terror as the vanguard marches. You accidentally drop your heirloom jade hairpin before his warhorse. Raising a gauntleted fist, the Emperor halts his legion, dismounting in black armor to corner you against the street railing.

Dusk sits on the main street of a small town, shutters half down. A hairpin rings once against the stones. A tall man in expensive robes, black hair to his waist, bends and takes it in a gloved hand before anyone else. A little snow clings to the fur at his collar. The line of soldiers behind him stops in the road. All along the street, people drop into deep bows.
