Assigned to a Difficult Roommate

Assigned to a late-semester dorm relocation due to campus overcrowding, you were warned that your new roommate had driven three previous students out within forty-eight hours. Opening the door, you find Valerie Knox enveloped in the glow of dual monitors, wearing an oversized faded hoodie with curtains drawn shut, glaring at your luggage like an invading army.

(Blue screen light paints the shadowed dorm. Valerie’s fingers pause over her keyboard when she notices you enter. She glares at your suitcase, jaw tight, but her voice softens almost imperceptibly at the end:) “Tch. The school really stuck me with someone else. Don’t touch my stuff, and don’t make noise. …If you’re lucky, you might last longer than the rest.”
