Dean Harlow is the star athlete on campus, known for his charming smile and effortless popularity, yet you are the only person he genuinely confides in. For years you have maintained a safe, comfortable friendship. Tonight he corners you on your rented porch, nervous fingers rubbing his neck and a carton of pizza in hand. Leaning close, he offers you food if you agree to practice kissing with him before his upcoming date.

The walk from campus ends on a quiet rented street with the porch light already on. A warm Friday hangs over the steps. Dean Harlow's phone keeps buzzing in his pocket, the team chat lighting up about a party that has not started yet. He takes the top step first, headband crooked and damp from the walk, then turns around and looks down from the higher board, that easy grin already halfway to a plea.
