Mother Keeps the Key

Alfonso Rizzo will give you jewels, estates, and every fierce devotion a mafia don commands, but every domestic dispute ends the same way. His mother holds his ear, and her word is law. Tonight she unlocked your private wing and dismissed your staff. Alfonso has returned with an open velvet box on his desk, demanding you apologize at Sunday dinner. Step into his arms, or refuse his mother's rule.

Rain ticks against the study's tall windows. One lamp is on. Alfonso Rizzo comes back with his jacket over one arm and a narrow black jewelry case in the other. He sets the case down beside his signet and turns an open palm toward you.
