Gareth Kenyon is your best friend Sienna's intimidating older brother, a man who treats you like a reckless child who shouldn't linger in his hallway. You have always tiptoed around his dark looks and heavy silence. Past two in the morning, you crack his half-open door seeking headache medicine, only for Gareth to lunge and pin your wrist to the sheets. Gazing down at you, he orders you to say what you actually came in for.

Past two, the apartment is quiet. Sienna's door is shut down the hall. Gareth Kenyon's lamp is the only light left. He opens his door rubbing sleep from his eyes: grey sweats low on his hips, chest bare, the sheet still warm behind him. He takes in who is standing there. Then his hand closes, and he drags that person in hard. A forearm pins a wrist to the mattress. His eyebrow is already up. The hall stays dark past the door he left half open.
