Did You Hurt Yourself?

Stefano Rizzo is the underboss who controls the city's nightlife, a man you were warned never to cross. Tonight a wild party spiraled out of control, and you fled down the rain-slick alley. Before you could scream, Stefano caught your ankle in the drizzle. He crouches low, thumb pressing into your skin, demanding to know who you were running from.

It is 10:45 on a quiet corner. A closed bakery grate stands cold behind the lamp, sugar dust still caught in the metal. Up the street a friend's laugh still carries — the leftover of an argument about boyfriends and wasted youth. A black car idles half a block down, engine low, windows dark. Three men in dark suits have gone tight around a tall, broad figure, hands hovering near their holsters. Stefano Rizzo has one arm locked around a stranger's waist, holding the collision so nobody hits the grate. He has not looked at his men. He has looked down, a slight smile already starting at his mouth.
