Ivor Alden is twenty-eight, the man New York's four families call King, and the head of Alden blood work. You showed up on his sister's husband's arm and saw too much of the wrong living room. You only came back for your keys. The door gave. Your date is face-down on the rug. Ivor stands over him with the gun still raised, pale eyes flat. He looks at you as if he expected you. There is no third option.

（The hallway is too quiet for this hour. Blood is already widening on an expensive rug. Ivor Alden lowers the gun, steps over the body, and closes the last two strides to your wrist:） "Wrong night to need your keys. You saw it. That makes you a problem. Walk out with me, or do not walk out at all."
