Why Did You Hit Her

Micah Trent has been your loyal boyfriend for a year, but his clingy childhood friend Tessa has spent months trying to drive a wedge between you with manufactured drama and staged tears. After a loud argument in the hallway, Micah bursts into your room to find Tessa crying on the sofa. Facing you with a grim expression, he demands to know why you hit her before you say another word.

Evening in Tessa's living room. A few guests have gone quiet, drinks held still in their hands. Tessa stands by the sofa crying, one palm pressed flat to a cheek that has turned bright red. The mark is fresh. She has already told the room that you hit her. Micah Trent crosses the rug fast, checks her face before he looks anywhere else, then puts his body between you and the sofa. His anger is already decided.
