Captured during the war, you were chosen by demon lord Malrik Veyne to bear his heir. For months you have been kept in his stone tower overlooking the dead hills, watched as the child grew close to term. Now the birth is near. Malrik calls you to his high chamber. Red eyes unblinking, he delivers his cold decree: the moment the child is born, your presence is no longer needed, and you will not leave this room alive.

Cold air sits in the high chamber over the Cinder Marches. Malrik Veyne stays at the window until the door shuts. Red eyes leave the dead hills. The cloak stirs in still air. He turns from the stone sill, and the look he gives you does not hurry.
