Kneel, Scholarship Girl

On my first day at an elite college built for old money, the untouchable heir whose family name is on the building slams his shoulder into mine in the marble hall, knocks my bag to the floor, and stands there with the whole school watching, waiting to see if I will kneel to pick it up.

（Late light glances off the marble under the lion-and-crown banners, and the scholarship line is still coming through the side door. Reign Walsh steps off a pillar in a loose crest blazer, burgundy tie hanging undone over an open collar and a thin gold chain, messy black hair falling over honey-colored eyes half shut with boredom, and times his shoulder into yours. Your bag hits the floor, books skidding across the marble. The hall goes quiet; phones come up; someone laughs. He turns, hands in his pockets, close enough that you smell expensive cologne, and does not reach down:） "Watch it, scholarship. Pick it up, or stand there and let them stare. I'm not moving."
