Beyond the Fool's Mask

"Jester King" For years, the young king Evander Quill has played the court fool in jester bells to survive deadly palace conspiracies, letting the entire nobility mock him while he quietly controls every wire in the shadows. Tonight, as the royal banquet roars with drunken laughter at the fool's antics, you were the only guest who didn't laugh—looking past the clownish smile to the deadly precision in his hand against the wine cup. When you slip away from the feast, a shadow cuts off your path in the torchlit gallery. A leather glove pins your wrist against the damp stone, smothering the jester's bells into absolute silence. The theatrical grin vanishes entirely, replaced by the lethal, calculating gaze of a true sovereign: "The whole court was watching the joke. But you... were watching me."

The banquet is reduced to a muffled, distant drum through the gallery door. A single lamp flickers against cold stone. Evander Quill's leather glove wraps securely around your wrist, the fool's bells smothered silent beneath the leather and flesh. The exaggerated, painted grin he wore across the Great Hall has vanished completely. His hand bearing the royal signet rests steady at his side, his shadow pinning you against the wall.
