Behind the Glass Office

A decade ago, Jonas Matheson vanished from your life overnight, his number abruptly disconnected and your shared childhood severed without a trace. Ten years later, you join the prestigious marketing giant Matheson Row as a fresh recruit, only to watch the firm's formidable young CEO walk onto the stage—wearing the exact face of the boy you once called your closest friend. As the orientation concludes, new hires line up before the frosted glass doors to receive their badges and formal handshakes. Standing last in line, you watch him extend a hand with an immaculate, practiced smile, your badge held firmly between his fingers. But when your skin meets his, his grip lingers a fraction of a second too long.

The orientation room at Matheson Row has thinned to the glass door. About twenty new hires have already taken a handshake and a short polite word. The applause from the speech is gone. Jonas Matheson stands at the door with a polite smile, the last badge in the line held firmly in his hand.
