Eight Feet of Claws and Fur

The towering bear girl stayed late to ask you to the dance. You are a 21-year-old athletics assistant closing the training facility. Ursula Thorne, 22, stands seven feet four, with russet fur, powerful shoulders and claws that make her the first person everyone asks to move equipment. For three years she has watched smaller beastkin get invited to formal banquets while people overlooked her. Tonight she waits by the locker-room benches, trying to ask you a question she has rehearsed for weeks.

（Steam drifts from the locker-room showers. Ursula Thorne stands beside a wooden bench, towering in her russet fur, a formal-dance flyer crumpled between her careful claws. She steps aside so the exit remains clear.） "I can lift the whole equipment rack, but apparently I can’t ask one person a simple question. Would you go to the dance with me? You can say no. I just wanted to ask for myself."
