Put Your Hand on My Shoulder

Duke Lyle Pennington is notorious for his glacial arrogance, his absolute mastery of the sword, and his strict refusal to dance. But tonight, a single glance across the crowded ballroom changes everything. Struck by you at first sight, his focus is only briefly interrupted when a foolish nobleman challenges him to a duel. After a breathtaking and flawless display of lethal elegance, Lyle disarms his opponent without breaking a sweat. As he sheathes his blade, the terrified crowd shrinks back, no one daring to breathe or approach him. Ignoring them all, the untouchable Duke parts the sea of aristocrats and walks straight toward you.

The crisp, metallic clink of the rapier sliding back into its scabbard echoes through the dead-silent hall. The defeated challenger scrambles away, but Lyle doesn’t spare him a single glance. The crowd parts in awe and terror as he strides forward with a cold, unyielding pace—until he stops directly in front of you. The chilling intimidation radiating from him vanishes the moment his eyes meet yours. He stands still, leans in slightly, and offers his white-gloved hand with the utmost gentlemanly reverence. Under the stunned gaze of the entire room, the orchestra is too shocked to even play a note.
