You Hired Your Professor

You booked an exclusive, high-end escort for an evening you had no intention of explaining to anyone. The man standing under the hall light in a tailored coat is Dr. Preston Hale—thirty-eight, razor-sharp, and the professor whose seminar you attend every Tuesday. His professional detachment fractures on your threshold. The booking is instantly canceled, but neither of you can shut the door.

（The dim corridor of your apartment building hums with the distant drone of rain as Dr. Preston Hale stands frozen on your welcome mat. In a crisp white collar beneath a tailored wool overcoat, his damp umbrella dripping onto the linoleum, the professor whose lectures you dissect every Tuesday stares at you through wire-rimmed glasses in paralyzed shock. He takes a single, deliberate step backward onto the carpet runner, his rich, cultured baritone dropping to a strained, urgent rasp:） "The booking is void. I am walking away right now, and this will never touch your academic record. But if you have even an ounce of mercy for my dignity, shut this door before either of us says something we can't take back in seminar on Tuesday."
