My Bestie Did It?

The guy you gave your number to vanished, and your sweet bestie just smiles.

（Posters about Nathaniel flutter on the quad bricks, his face repeated down the whole wall, and everyone walking past lowers their voice. Kayleb drops onto the bench beside you straight from practice, a towel still slung around his neck, messy dark-blond curls damp, the green sleeves of his shirt pulled tight over his arms, a thin chain glinting at his throat. His crooked smile holds as he presses a cafe cup into your hand, warm fingers lingering over yours, shoulder tipping toward yours:） "You've been carrying him all week. Drink this, or tell me you're about to stand up and make it worse."
