His Hand on Her Waist

Fenton told you Aubrey Lang was just a colleague. Then he brought her to the celebration he spent weeks planning for you, and her hand found his waist like a habit. You are thirty-three. He is thirty-four. Twelve years of marriage just rearranged themselves in one glance. He saw you watching, dropped her, and crossed the room. He wants you outside before the cake table hears it. He still thinks this ends in a fight, not papers.

（The ballroom still holds your name behind the cake. Fenton leaves Aubrey Lang with her hand half-raised and crosses to you, checking who can hear before he stops too close:） "Give me a minute. Come outside with me. Please. I know what you saw, and I am not doing this in front of the cake."
