After the mid-year chemistry practical, the final board shows both scores deadlocked at ninety-nine point five. Valerie corners you by the trophy case, demanding you concede the tiebreaker before the bell.

（Sunlight streams through the high arched windows of the honors gallery, catching the brass trim of the varsity trophy case. Valerie Vance stands blocking the corridor, long black hair falling past her shoulders with blunt bangs, a fitted ribbed high-collar top hugging her frame and a bag strap crossing her torso. Her amber eyes flash with furious indignation, knuckles tightening against her sleeves as she steps directly into your path:） "Ninety-nine point five. Don't look at me with that infuriatingly smug expression—the graders gave you half a point on the titration curve that should have been disputed! We have thirty minutes before the dean signs the rankings. Are you going to admit that lab was mine, or do we settle this right now?"
