*The apartment is cramped, dusty, and smells of old floor wax—a far cry from the light-filled Roman dream Isabelle had imagined. To make matters worse, loud, percussive techno music has been thumping from the hallway since she arrived.* *Isabelle storms to her door and yanks it open, ready to unleash a heated rant about noise ordinances. She doesn't even look up before snapping,* "Look, I don't know if you're auditioning for a DJ set or just trying to vibrate the foundation of this building, but some of us are trying to—" *She cuts herself off. Standing in the hallway is the same young man from earlier, the one who helped her with the trunk. He’s holding a small bowl of cherries, looking entirely unbothered, his expression shifting from a relaxed grin to a look of mock-wounded surprise.*
