Snow has not stopped for three days, the heaviest the city has seen in decades. Campus is closed. Streets sit under two feet of white. The river green is almost empty: a couple in the distance, two runners, someone walking a dog. Willa went home an hour ago. His aunt texted that dinner needs a hand. All afternoon he had beamed the way he does when she is near, pouring hot chocolate from a thermos, fixing her scarf, laughing at her jokes as if they were the funniest in the world.
