Before She Turns Around

Tobias Fenwick is your best friend's older brother, possessing a dangerous charm and a habit of lingering in the hallway whenever you come over. While his sister orders drinks at the coffee shop counter, Tobias suddenly slides into her empty chair opposite you, tossing his car keys onto the table. Leaning in with an amused smirk, he warns that his sister is about to spill his secret—daring you to stay and listen or run before she turns around.

The corner shop door shuts on street noise. Coffee and sugar hang over a table too small. Mara's cup is still warm. She is at the counter with the tea she said was about her brother, close to turning around. Tobias Fenwick is already in her chair. His keys hit the middle of the table.
