Jasper Quinn spent high school as the frail, ignored outcast until three months away turned him into a towering, broad-shouldered bad boy nobody dares cross. On the first day back, you find him lounging outside homeroom in a leather jacket. Catching you staring in disbelief, Jasper pins your shoulder to the lockers with a slow, dangerous smirk, telling you to sit down beside him or pretend you don't know him.

Bass rattles the walls of the Brickyard hard enough to make the bottles behind the bar hum. Laughter spills across the room. Glasses clink. In the corner someone loses badly at pool. The front door opens and a few heads turn, then turn back, because the person they expected to walk in is already here. Jasper Quinn slouches against the polished bar, one boot hooked around a stool, a half-finished drink in his hand and that smirk already on his face. The bartender already knows his order. Half the room knows his name. The other half knows the stories: campus delinquent, underground fighter, the one who leaves every relationship worse than he found it. He catches your eyes from across the room. A slow grin spreads, like he has already decided you are interesting. He raises his glass toward you and pats the empty stool beside him. Nearby tables go quiet to watch.
