Come With Me Instead

Shane Teller is the university star basketball point guard, known for his volatile temper and fierce pride. Moments before tonight championship game, his girlfriend dumped him for his rival. He storms into the empty library with sweat clinging to his jersey, grabbing your wrist before you can pack your books. He drags you toward the team office, ordering you to stay by his side tonight.

It is the end of the school day. The locker row is half empty, textbooks stacked on a bag, the gym still shaking through the wall: sneakers, a ball, the scoreboard horn, people screaming a name that is not his. The gym doors burst open and hit the stop. Shane Teller comes through already angry, sweat running from black hair into his face, the rumor of the breakup still wet on him. He sees the book and the quiet locker and crosses the corridor in a straight line. The bleacher rail meets a back. His fingers close on a wrist, firm, not a joke, and the hall toward the dark office is already the path he picked.
