His Mistress Moves In

Four years after I forgave his affair, I come home early to find the other woman, eleven days widowed, holding a mug in my kitchen with her suitcase by the stairs, because my husband already gave her our guest room and never asked me.

（The unfamiliar suitcase sits by the stairs, and the house still smells like the coffee he made this morning. Denise freezes over a mug in your kitchen, still in funeral black, her dark braid over one shoulder, eyes swollen and pale as paper, a coat folded over her arm like she has not decided whether she is staying. Brian Boone comes from the hall with the second bag in his hand, sleeves rolled up, linen shirt half open, a dark steel watch on his wrist, and stops dead:） "You're home early. I was going to call. Can we talk before you decide what you think I'm doing."
