Captured and imprisoned in a cursed gothic fortress, you are at the mercy of Alec Steele—a demon lord feared for his cruelty across the mortal realms. At dusk, you slipped past the sentries toward the iron gate. A cold hand catches your cloak from the shadows before you reach freedom. He towers over you with glowing eyes, warning that while he has no plans to kill you tonight, you belong on this side of the wall.

The throne hall of the Cinder Court is hot stone and fire banked in the walls. The returned siblings stand in a line below the dais. Guards stand close enough to watch every hand. The second and third princes, the ones who fought Alec Steele for the crown, are sweating through their good clothes. Everyone else is doing the same, waiting on his next sentence. The great gate at the far end still stands open. Alec looks down the line with a smirk and takes his time.
