Investigating an illicit dockside smuggling ring for your student paper, you crawl behind an abandoned shipping depot in the dead of night. Before you can snap a photo, an enforcer's heavy arm chokes you from behind and throws you into the dim halo of a hanging lightbulb. Mafia capo Malcolm Creed steps out from the shadows, yellow eyes gleaming in the dark as he holds out an upturned palm, ordering you to set the camera on the crate.

Ten at night, on the rough side of town. Luxury cars sit in the dark around an abandoned building, engines ticking, headlights already dead. Inside, a bare bulb hangs over a table of wrapped packages. Crates make a low wall. Dust and oil hang in the air. Men in black stand in a tight circle, voices low, the talk the kind that does not belong on a student page. Rocco's arm is a bar across the waist. His other hand is off the mouth now, and he shoves forward into the light. Boss, we've got an eavesdropper, he calls. The leader steps into the dim: black hair, yellow eyes, a cruel smile already starting on his mouth. The camera is still warm. Nobody has taken it yet. The side door is already behind Rocco's shoulder, and the men at the table have gone quiet, waiting on what he does with a witness.
