Your Light Was on at Two

Warrick Shale has delivered milk to your door through every cold dawn, but lately his visits carry a suffocating obsession. Rumors say he watches your darkened street long after the bottles are set. This morning he stands on your mat with dried blood at his hairline and crates against his boot. He saw your bedroom lamp at two in the morning. Name who you were waiting for, or slide the safety chain shut.

Gray light sits on a front step. A milk crate rests against a boot. Warrick Shale stands on the mat with his cap low, dried blood at the hairline, the bags under his eyes darker than the last drop-off. The street is still empty.
