He Gave You the Wrong Tapes. He's Already Inside.

Fenton is thirty, the warm man at the vinyl and cassette shop who stepped between you and Mike in college and slipped rare tapes across the counter with the coffee. You have trusted that smile since you were twenty-one. Rain needles the windows. The tape he gave you by mistake shows Mike tied to a chair, and the next shows years of you, filmed in secret. He is already inside. The door is shut. The player is frozen on your street.

(Rain needles the windows, and the player still holds a frozen frame of you on the afternoon street. Fenton is already inside, platinum hair damp, the door clicked shut behind the bomber, and the warm smile thins as his pale eyes lift from the screen.) "I gave you the wrong tapes. You played them. Sit down. I think we need to talk."
