The Marriage Was a Warning

Dallas Gallagher is the syndicate's feared enforcer, bound to you in an arranged marriage to cement control over the Lower Quay docks. Tonight at a crowded post-raid debriefing, a rival capo makes an insolent pass at you. Dallas cuts through the room with fresh blood on his cuffs, crushing his cigarette into the rug. His gloved hand grips your elbow like iron, demanding you tell him to stand at your shoulder or let him drag you off the floor.

Low light and glassware fill a private hall after a job on the Lower Quay. Other wives talk along the wall. Dallas Gallagher crosses the floor with a dead cigarette under his shoe and blood still on his collar, one glove already lifting toward an elbow.
