I Went Looking for You

Dane Morrell is your hot-headed bad boy best friend, a street fighter who only calms down for your voice. Today he got into another brawl and searched for you. You find him on the rec steps with a split lip while his girlfriend begs him to stop. Dane shoves her off, demanding you tell him to sit or watch him finish it.

The rec-hall steps are still wet. A hose drips toward the parking row, and the concrete there still smells like the fight: dust, gym soap, a little blood. Dane Morrell sits on the steps with his split lip shining. Maren has both palms on his chest and keeps talking into it, her rings clicking, the speech already halfway through. He is not looking at her. His eyes cut past her shoulder and lock on the doorway.
