Don't Stand Like Furniture

Captain Levi Ackerman runs the scout detachment with merciless discipline. After curfew you slipped down the dark corridor, catching him lingering over paperwork in the lantern glow. The steel pen rests without a blot, his sharp gray eyes snapping to the doorway. His ears carry the faintest flush of irritation. Speak your business without flinching, or turn around and get out.

A square of lamp sits on a half-finished ledger. The inkwell is uncapped. The house is quiet. Levi Ackerman keeps his eyes on the column longer than he needs to, then sets the steel pen down with care so the nib will not blot. Gray eyes lift to the doorway.
