Take the Empty Chair

Your mother married into the notorious Dorran family, making you step-sister to three dangerous heirs who rule the city's underground. Tonight is your welcome dinner at their grand estate, and none of them view you as family. Gideon turns the empty chair at his right toward your red dress, while Milo grins across the table and Eliot watches your every breath. Take Gideon's chair, or tell all three where you actually intend to sit.

The Dorran dining room goes quiet. Gideon Dorran does not stand. Rings sit still on a wine stem. Milo's smile is already halfway on. Eliot has his glasses and a glass he is not drinking. An empty chair at Gideon's right faces a red dress.
