After dark, Edmund Kade's office is lit by one desk lamp. A ledger lies open on the wood. The window behind it is black. Steam lifts off a cup of tea at the near edge of the desk, poured minutes ago and left untouched. He stands at the glass with his back to the room, jacket still on, one hand loose at his side. A knock lands on the door. He does not turn at once. The room smells of paper, cold glass and the tea he will not claim.
