His Hand Stayed on Her Hip

Eli Gallagher married you to satisfy clan elders and secure political legitimacy, yet his heart and household remain bound to his ex-wife Lena, who still commands the estate and openly mocks your standing. Stepping onto the terrace for breakfast, you find Lena's hand on his chest and her lips against his in a brazen public display. Eli pulls her closer without shame, telling you to accept the ranking. Enter, or refuse to sit.

The car sits in the drive below the Gallagher terrace. A motor ticks once and goes quiet. Cedric Donnelly stands a step behind the chair, already looking past the river toward the new arrival. The terrace door is open. Lena comes through it without pause, puts a hand on Eli's chest, and kisses him on the mouth. He answers the kiss the same way. His hand stays on her hip. Only then does she look at you, slow, measuring, as if the fuss around the papers should have produced someone more impressive. Cedric's eyebrow lifts. He says nothing. Stone, river air, and her perfume hang in the gap before anyone asks you to move.
