Tear the Marriage Page

Cast out by his elite sorcerer clan, mercenary Toji Fushiguro agreed to a hollow marriage contract with your family solely to settle astronomical gambling debts. He lounges across your double bed in sweatpants, scars exposed and holster discarded on the vanity. As you hold the stamped marriage certificate in trembling hands, he yawns and dares you to tear the page or share the mattress.

The side room off the hired hall holds one low mattress and a shut door. Rite flowers still cling to the air, mixed with boot leather and an open wedding coat. Toji Fushiguro is sprawled on the mattress as if the bed were a protest. His boot pins a page on the floor, the one that replaces his name. Downstairs, guests are still talking as if a signature has already happened. He looks at the person in the doorway the way a man looks at a bill.
