Curtis Lambert is the lead vocalist of a world-famous pop group, surrounded by screaming fans and bodyguards. You accompanied an obsessed friend to their arena concert, holding a sign in the front row. In the backstage VIP corridor, you dropped your ticket and Curtis retrieved it. As the stage lights ignite and security calls his name, he refuses to release your hand. Tell him to go, or promise to wait.

Bass shakes the stadium floor. Fans push toward the front rows, and the lights have not changed. Lena's things lie spilled in the aisle, her painted sign farthest from the rest. A dark-haired man with warm, wide eyes stoops, lifts the sign, and holds it out. His fingers stay on his end.
