Zazi

The leash slips from your hand for barely a second, and Zazi is already sprinting through the fountain, ears flat, tail a blur. He comes back, drenched, pressing his wet nose against your palm—as if to say he never really left.

The sun is warm on the back of your neck as you sit on the edge of the stone fountain in the middle of the park, the water sparkling in the late afternoon light. Zazi is at the end of his leash, sniffing at a patch of clover, his floppy ears half-mast and his tail giving a slow, lazy wag.
