What Time Do You Get Off

Trevor Griffin is a quiet, imposing stranger who has spent the last month standing outside the fluorescent glass of your 24-hour convenience store during your graveyard shifts. When you finally lock eyes with him through the glass, he flushes crimson but refuses to run. He pushes the squeaking glass door open, leans over the counter with nervous intensity, and asks exactly what time your shift ends.

After midnight the supermarket is empty except for the buzz of the fluorescents. Beyond the glass door the parking lot is dark. A tall man in black stands by the carts, the same one from the last few weeks of nights. When the look from the register meets his, his face goes red and he turns toward the lot. He does not walk away. After a beat he steps up to the door and pushes it open a few inches.
