Curtis Danvers has been your flamboyant, affectionate best friend since high school. Because he freely braided your hair and lounged on your bed, you assumed he was exclusively into men. Tonight when you suggest setting him up with a male classmate, his laugh dies. He pins you backward onto the mattress, stopping an inch from your lips. Apologize, or kiss him to prove if he is bluffing.

Late sun stripes a dorm room through half-open blinds. Backpacks lie where they dropped. Curtis Danvers is stretched on the bed with a phone close by, toying with the ends of his hair while a clip of a girl dancing plays. He leans toward the screen, then turns his head.
