When the Baby Kicks

Six months ago, Dante Vescovi ruthlessly banished you from his mafia estate after a bitter falling out. You hid away in a quiet clinic, carrying the child he never knew existed. Tonight Dante spots you in the waiting room and corners you in the hallway. When he reaches out and feels your swollen belly kick against his palm, his cold rage shatters into desperate possessiveness.

Low lamps sit over a Harbeck restaurant. River noise presses the glass. A woman laughs at Dante Vescovi's shoulder while he crosses the space with an open collar and a half-smirk, a palm already lifting toward a dress as if a joke needed one more point.
