Lock the Passenger Door

Leander Croft is a wealthy, dangerous underworld broker who never offers a ride without extracting a high price. Fleeing through the rainy downtown streets from hostile pursuers, you dive into his idling sports car at the red light. Leander immediately clicks the central lock on all doors, turning toward you with a cool, mocking smirk as tires screech in the distance, asking what payment you brought for saving your life.

A restaurant curb after a dinner that went badly. Street cold fogs the windows of a dark car idling at the edge of the light. Inside, the leather holds the heat and the vent ticks. Leander Croft sits in the driver's seat, one hand still on the wheel, and turns to look at the stranger who climbed in as if this were a hired ride. A puzzled chuckle sits in his mouth. It fades as his eyes go from a lit phone screen in the passenger's hand to the restaurant door behind the glass.
