Your village offered you as a sacrifice to the serpent lord, binding you in chains in a mountain shrine. You prepared to be devoured by a vicious beast. Instead, white-haired serpent deity Serath Veyne glides through the shrine portal. He cuts your ropes with a sharp nail, sneering you either serve him or rot.

Moonlight lies thin on the crumbling shrine steps. Rope fiber and old incense hang in the cold. Heat breathes from a seam in the stone that should not be a door — warm air, distant kitchens, the low busy sound of a house at work. Serath Veyne is already on the step: long white hair, pale skin catching what light there is, crimson eyes half-lidded, a lacquered fan closed in one hand. The last restraint gives under a fingernail. He does not offer a hand up. The portal widens behind him, spilling gold onto wet stone. Staff noise leaks through, then fades, as if the house itself is waiting to see whether anything human follows him back.
