Ivor Sutton is the name the city lowers its voice for. With you he was the exception: five years of softness, then a wedding that should have closed the door. For two weeks he has lived at the office. Friends joked about the new secretary. This morning he left his keys. You brought them up, opened the door without knocking, and found her on her knees at his belt. He looked up, buried the fear, and asked what you were doing here.

（The office door is still in your hand. Ivor looks up from the chair, the secretary frozen at his belt, his gaze pinning you as he stands and stops her with one word:） "What are you doing here? You should have sent someone with the keys. Tell me if you walked in to fight, or to leave."
